🧪 Changes since previous version:
-
- This privacy policy has been completely updated to align with our new Questlog App, which has been significantly expanded compared to the original 2022 demo.
When using our services, such as our app and website, we collect and process certain data. In this privacy statement, we explain what data we collect, why we do so, and how we manage it. This gives you a good understanding of our methods and how we work.
We respect the privacy of our users and ensure that the personal information you provide us with is treated confidentially. We have taken appropriate technical and organisational security measures and ensure that all data remains within the borders of the European Union. Complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is self-evident for us.
Your data will only be used to provide our services and will not be sold to third parties. As a two-sided discovery platform, our revenue model lies not in trading data, but in receiving a commission when users complete one or more Quests at a business.
This privacy statement applies to all services provided by Questlog B.V.
By using our services, you agree to this statement.
1. About Questlog
Questlog B.V. (“Questlog”) is a Dutch company based in Breda, the Netherlands. We develop and operate software for Android, iOS, and the web. Our goal is to make it easier for users to engage in new experiences in hospitality, recreation, culture, and nature, and for companies in these industries to increase the visibility of their services in a unique way.
2. Creating a user account
To be able to use the Questlog App and Questlog Builder, you will need an account. You can create this in two ways:
-
- Register with email address and password
- Logging in via OAuth (Facebook or Google)
If you choose OAuth, we will automatically receive your email address and (possibly) your name and profile image from Facebook or Google. This allows us to create your account and let you log in.
We do not store passwords or authentication codes in our own database. For authentication, we use AWS Cognito, so we do not have insight into this data either.
During the registration process, we ask you to create a unique username. In addition, you can – if you wish – provide your first name and surname, but this is not mandatory.
3. Display in the app
Users can find each other in the app via the search bar in the Quest overview. Your username and number of points earned are always visible to others. If you have chosen to set a first name, surname, and/or profile picture, these will likewise be visible in the app.
There is also an option to enter your gender and date of birth. This is not mandatory and is currently not displayed in the app itself. However, if you are connected to a Builder profile on the Questlog Builder, your colleagues can see this data in the team overview. We also use this information at an aggregate level to get a better picture of our target audience.
4. Privacy settings
Within the Questlog App, there are three main privacy settings. You can adjust these by clicking on the settings icon at the top right of your profile and then go to the Privacy tab.
-
- By checking Private account, only followers you accept can view your profile content. Your username, points, and any name and profile picutre will still be visible.
-
- Normally, your followers can find your recently completed Quests in the timeline on the home screen. You can turn this off by checking Disable timeline.
-
- Finally, you can also prevent followers from seeing your past completions (your Quest history) when they click on your profile, by checking Hide history.
Changing these actions have immediate effect.
5. Location data
To complete GPS Quests and display location-relevant content, we request access to your location. We do not store your location.
You can set whether your location is only used when the app is open or also in the background. Background location allows you to complete GPS Quests without having the app open in the foreground.
When you complete a Quest, it will be registered in your profile as completed with a timestamp. You can find back all your completed Quests in your own profile history.
6. Use of camera
To complete Scan Quests, we use the camera. This is only active when you go to the scanner within the app. We do not store any footage and only use the camera to recognise QR codes associated with Questlog.
7. Use of gallery
If you want to upload a profile image or send a file via the feedback form, we ask permission to open your gallery. In doing so, we only display the files you have locally available; we do not actually save anything until you select and confirm the file.
Only the file you select is stored in our database as a profile image. This image is immediately deleted again when you change or delete the profile image.
8. Questlog Builder
Through the Questlog Builder (builder.appquestlog.com), we offer partners and companies the opportunity to create Quests and highlight their organisation in the Questlog App. For this purpose, we process additional data, such as the company name, logo, and contact details.
We only collect and process the data necessary for the functinoal operation of the Builder and to provide users with appropriate information.
9. General analytics
The data we collect through the app and our websites is used to track and update your progress in Questlog and to perform statistical analysis. This allows us to evaluate our products and services and make informed decisions to improve Questlog.
We do not collect and use information for purposes other than those described in this privacy statement, unless we have obtained your prior consent.
10. Communication
When you send email or other messages to us, we may retain those messages. Sometimes we ask for personal information relevant to the particular situation. This makes it possible for us to process your questions and respond to your requests.
However, we will never ask for passwords or verification codes.
The data is stored on our own secure servers or those of a third party (such as Meta, in case you contact us via WhatsApp).
11. External partners
Questlog B.V. is not responsible for the privacy policies of third parties, but we do select our partners with your privacy as a priority.
To provide our products and services, we work with several carefully selected third parties. These include parties that enable the technical operation of our app or that fulfil another supporting role (e.g. for administration or communication).
Only when necessary do we share data with these parties, and then only for the purpose for which the data was collected. For example, we use Mapbox to display Quests and your current location on the map.
12. Cookies
We use cookies and similar techniques on our websites to provide certain functionalities, analyse the use of our features, and improve our services. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit our websites.

14. Access to stored data
You have the right to access, modify, or delete any personal data you have provided to us. To prevent misue, we may ask you to identify yourself. Questlog B.V. will provide information about the actions we have taken as a result of your request as soon as possible, but in any case within one month of receiving your request.
In addition, you have the right to file a complaint with the competent supervisory authority (in the Netherlands this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) if you feel that we do not comply with privacy regulations.
